IEEE Region 5 Directors Spotlight Wire Lion

IEEE Region 5 Director Christopher Sanderson wrote about the directors' visit to UCCS, where Wire Lion members showcased hands-on electronics projects.

On October 9, 2026, the IEEE Pikes Peak Section welcomed IEEE Region 5 Director Christopher Sanderson, Director-Elect Ian MacMillan, and West Area Coordinator Faye Kann for a day of "Meet the Directors" sessions with Section leadership, industry professionals, students, and IEEE members.

At UCCS, the directors met with 28 students, faculty advisors, and Section members, including members of the Wire Lion Engineering Club. In a write-up of the visit, Sanderson highlighted what our members brought to the table:

“Students showcased hands-on electronics projects and demonstrated the creativity, technical skills, and innovation that will shape tomorrow's engineering workforce.”

— Christopher Sanderson, IEEE Region 5 Director

The post also called on IEEE to connect student members with professional mentors, technical resources, leadership opportunities, and pathways to continued involvement:

“We must help students see IEEE not simply as a student organization, but as a lifelong professional community.”

— Christopher Sanderson, IEEE Region 5 Director

Thank you to IEEE Region 5 and the IEEE Pikes Peak Section for visiting UCCS and for the kind words about our members.
